Supernatural: Dream Weavers

Dean and SamSupernatural was firing on all cylinders this episode: Bobby backstory! Freaky imagery! Sam getting gooey! Two Deans for the price of one! Plus spookiness, scares and an ocean of angst. Joy!

The boys get a call that Bobby is in a bad way -- he fell asleep and just didn't wake up. With a little bit of sleuthing, the guys figure out that someone is dreamwalking -- using mystical plants to enter other people's dreams. Normally, they'd ask Bobby how to proceed, but he's a bit uncommunicative at the moment -- unless, of course, they figure out a way into his head…

For that, they need dream root, and it's not easy to come by. They know of only one person who would have it… Bela. Oy. Much to their surprise, she agrees to help out -- Bobby saved her life once, she tells them. She owes him.

The boys enter Bobby's nightmare, and we finally learn how our beloved Bobby fell into hunting: His wife was possessed by a demon, and he killed her. He's eaten up with guilt, and is at the point of just giving in and letting his nightmare kill him, but Dean refuses to let him go.

Sam, meanwhile, is in another dream entirely -- a color-saturated perfect outdoor world, if you overlook the bat-wielding maniac. Yep, Sam found the dream king -- or, more accurately, the dream king found him, and he's not happy. The dreamwalker was doing sleep experiments with the original victim. He'd suffered a head injury (his father had beaten him with a bat) when he was a child, and hadn't dreamed since -- until he started experimenting with dream tea. Then the doc who introduced him to the tea tried to get him to stop, which sent our dreamwalker over the murderous edge.

Problem is, now our dreamwalker has his hooks into Bobby and Dean (they really should know better than to accept beer from suspects). Our heroes try to stay awake, but after two days of constant caffeination, Dean gets sick of waiting (and way too jittery besides) and decides to lure the dreamwalker to him, and Sam jumps in as well. Cue the dreams -- first, Dean and Sam see Dean's dreams of domestic bliss with Bendy Girl, then the guys get separated. Dean battles both inner and outer demons: He confronts himself with some of his own worst fears. You're going to hell! You're nothing without Sam! You have nothing of your own -- it's all stuff you took from John! You're an attack dog, a blunt instrument, and you deserve what's coming to you!

Finally -- finally! -- Dean fights back against his own worst impulses. Dad was an obsessed bastard, I don't deserve what he put on me, and I don't deserve to go to hell! He kills his mirror image… but the other Dean pops back up with demon-black eyes. This is your future, and there's no stopping it.

Meanwhile, Sam is caught by Jeremy the dreamwalker again. As Jeremy beats the crap out of Sam, Sam reveals his own surprise -- he knows about Jeremy's nightmares, and since they're in a dream world, he can make them come to life. Jeremy's worst nightmare? His abusive father. When Sam conjures that vision, Jeremy dies from shock, and the boys are released.

But wait, there's more! The boys return to the hotel, and discover Bela lied about Bobby and her motives for helping them. She was really there to steal the Colt. Dean vows to hunt her down. As they head out, Dean finally tells Sam that he doesn't want to die, doesn't want to go to hell. Finally, he's seeing the value of his own life. Sam quietly vows that they'll come up with something -- but Dean is still haunted by those demon-black eyes staring at him from his own face.

I second the call for an Emmy nod for Jensen. He always has and continues to be the best part of this show.

Ok! Now that episode was so awsome! And that dream sam had about Bela is so funny. And the way he acted when he saw her after the dream hystarical.

I sure Hope sam and bobby finds a way to get Dean out of that deal! But i'm sure sam will find it cause he's awsome! I really wan't them to find a way beacause if they don't there will not really be other episode. I mean Dean is one of the main charaters.

The way i started looking at supernatural was that i oppened the tvb and it was playing. So i let it there cause it looked really good. And i just got really addicted to that show. Can't wait to buy season 3 i already have one and 2!!!

I dont want Dean to die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Bella / Sam dream and his reactions afterwards were almost as funny as the bad luck stuff in Bad Day at Black Rock. I laughed so hard when he couldn't stand up that I actually started crying... I used to have a really hot boss that I couldn't stand. It always made me feel a bit dirty if I caught myself catching a second look. I would have died if I had an intimate dream about him. Sam is adorable! This episode rocked!

demon!dean is creepy. When he snapped his fingers at the end, I was actually scared. :S

Did anyone else catch the look from the boys faces as they watched Bobby laying there in bed, helpless. Got the feeling they felt like they were loosing another Dad, didn't you?

Sam&Bela??? Mmmm NO, Sam is Ruby's boy.

wow
sorry I missed this one. sounds deep.

Stellar performance by Jensen Ackles - he never ceases to awe me.

"So glad Bobby didn't die. He can't die. I love him"

Linda: I hear you. For some reason, I was freaked that Bobby would be killed off. Then he survived and I relaxed. Whew.

"She still feels forced in to me."

Casey, same here about predicta-bela. It bothers me that Dean was written as dumb enough to open the safe and show its one content in front of Bela, who then predictably stole it. Also both Sam & Dean believed Bela, who has said she won't be indebted to anyone, when she said she's there because bobby saved her life. I'm tired of the way the writers have to moronify the Winchesters in order for Bela to accomplish her agenda.

"The Sam/Bela dream sequence. To random and pointless for me to find humerous."

Casey, I was reading a blog (by "lacey") on TV guide's website that shed some light on Sam's dream - something I didn't notice even on a second viewing. Sam's visions are back!! His dream was a warning that Bela would show up and "screw" Sam, which ended up being the stealing of the colt -
the one weapon he will need in the war. Yes, Sam & Bela getting it on made me cringe, but Sam's reactions to the dream were hilarious. :-)

Elusive: You've pretty much covered the rest. Bobby is awesome!! Bobby fills the void of John's absence - especially for Dean. Jim Beaver should have been given a contract instead of lauren. Regarding that last clip -WOW- creepy. It was almost as if the light of Dean's soul burned out in that moment. ::shivers::

One thing I want to add: Dean vs Dean. How disturbing was it watching Dean shoot himself?

some give Jensen an Emmy already!!!!

There hasn't been an episode this scary since season 1!! Great episode!!

I thought the dream that Sam had was funny especially after the Real!Bela came and Sam was SAM. I really hope the dream means he just need sex and nothing about it being Bela. (loved the Brad Pitt and Sam not being able to 'stand up' after the dream)

So glad Bobby didn't die. He can't die. I love him.

It's about time Dean had heart to heart talk with himself even if it was DreamDemon!Dean. He got out a lot of his frustrations with his father/life and so glad that he FINALLY told Sam that he doesn't want to die and go to hell!

Jensen Ackles did an awesome job in this episode!

I loved Dean with Bobby and I loved Dean and Demon Dean speach.

This episode was pretty good. I liked the dream concept and the way the lighting and things were done. And I was happy Dean finally admitted that he wants to live.
Jensen played that scene against himself extremely well.

The little backstory on Bobby was nice.

My only problem, once again was Bela. I just cannot bring myself to like this character. The actress is fine, just the character. But I blame the writing for that. She still feels forced in to me.
The Sam/Bela dream sequence. To random and pointless for me to find humerous.

Everytime they trust her, it makes them appear foolish and naive. Something these two characters are not. For me, it's frustrating to watch. As soon as they found out what kind of person Gordon was, they wanted nothing to do with him. In my opinion, it should be the same for her.

I probably wouldn't mind her as much if they start treating her more like a threat, instead of an annoyance. Otherwise, the current way they're using her, has already worn thin for me.

My thoughts exactly elusive_life_77; do you read minds? :) The only thing to add was Dean telling Bobby he's like a father to him (nice to hear that finally said aloud) and - dare I say it - his feelings about John ;)

Ciao, A

As I stated on the cw lounge sn thread. I loved the episode. It was great! Bela/Sam was hot!

ok, that was the most awesome and intense episode as far as I am concerned. It was perfection.

I almost howled myself hoarse with laughter when Sammy was dreaming of Bella and even more so when he realized that he had to put off standing up for a minute or two...I'm smiling right now just thinking about how funny it was.

And I LOVE Bobby. He is so great. He needs to be considered one of the co-stars of the show not just a guest appearence. IMO he is a vital member of the show. Every time he calls the boys idjit my heart warms.

Sensory overload with this ep! WOW, we got to see full bright sunshiney colors. Then it switched back to our standard doom and gloom mood lighting for the inside.

But the part that had me shivering in my chair...that last bit with Demon Dean talking again and then you see the smirk and hear the snap to wake up...holy hell that got to me like nothing else in the show ever has. That's saying something.

What an episode. Whew.
