A Surprising Supernatural Return!

OK, folks, EW's Michael Ausiello has an awesome bit of scoop on Supernatural that has us all aflutter. It seems that one of the dearly departed will be coming back to our screens next season for at least one episode. Who is it? In deference to spoilerphobes, we'll talk about it after the jump!

Jess is coming back! Ausiello tells us Adrianne Palicki is signed up to return for one ep early in the season. Why is she back, and what will she be doing? No clue, but we can't wait to find out.

When last we saw Jess, she was standing on a street corner gazing at Sam. Was she a vision? A hallucination? A harbinger of doom? We don't know, and the issue was dropped for many a season. But now she's coming back, so it looks like we'll be getting some answers. Wheee! Thanks for the follow-through, Kripke!

What's your take on Jess' return? What are your theories about why she's back? Talk about it in the comments!

Okay, so, just putting this out there and I don't know if someone did but that's technically not the last time we saw Jess. Dean saw her in "What is and what should never be".

Anyways, I think that a reappearance of Jess could have something to do with Sam's withdrawl from Demon blood, kind of like in When the Levee Breaks. She would, I think, be the voice of reason to him. Little Sammy and Dean really were more condescending figures while I think Jess would be the angel among the demons, as cliche as that sounds haah.

omg! haha total irony ... my bro and i were just watching the ep. when Sam saw her ghost on that street corner a couple of nights ago, and i was totally thinking about, what if she came back next season and saw what Sam is becoming and sort of brought him back to reality?? and NOW - i don't know, but maybe that's why she's coming back?? haha it'll sure be interesting though ...

I'm excited to hear she is coming back and I'd love for it to be for more than one episode. Sam really needs someone positive in his corner after all he went thru last season. Dean has Castiel and Anna, so Sam needs someone good and positive to support him while he and Dean work to get back together.

You are correct, Jess T and Becks -- We DID see Jess in What Is and What Should Never Be. Good catch. If I wanted to cover my butt, I'd say that was a hallucination in Dean's brain and therefore didn't count as a REAL Jess sighting... but that's a stretch. SAM didn't see her, but we sure did!

Two SN Points to Jess T and Becks!

Jess grounded Sam. I can see her come back as a spirit to tell him he has to stop pushing Dean away. That he has to forgive himself before he can begin to heal himself and his relationship with Dean. or something like that. :)

I think she will be a hallucination from withdrawal. don't forget that sam has not fully withdrawn from the demon blood yet (was interrupted in the last episode) and he drained a demon dry. Can you see what he will go thru???

She will be there to torment him.

I often wondered why they never got around to explaining Jessica's ghostly appearance in season 1. I really hope they do that in this episode. I personally think it will be a hallucination brought on by withdrawals from Sam's demon blood addiction which will play a major factor the first half of season 5.

Bwahahaha!

Didn't the demon in "Phantom Traveler" in season one mention Jess being in hell? And wouldn't she be in hell for around 500 years now with the big time differences? And isn't that enough time to go darkside?

I know demons lie, but when the truth hurts more, they ling it like prison gruel.

Evil Jess? Yes please.

i think its probably one of two things 1) another one of Sam's delusions when he tries to detox from the demon blood or 2) Ruby said Lucifer would be really, really grateful to Sam for setting him free perhaps he tries to entice our little Sammy.

whatever the plot it is going to be an EXCELLENT ride ... is it Sept yet :(

How brilliant! I love that Supernatural never forgets the importance of the dead for the living. As we saw in When the Levee Breaks - Jess is still very much in Sam's mind. Will Jess be an angel, or a demon or a zombie!! Maybe another AU or a flash back or a flash forward. Can't wait!

YES! I think it's going to be great. How wonderful. But i bet she'll be bad. Oh, I wish for once someone they loved come back as a fighter against the evil. That'd be nice.

Last time we saw Jess she was engaged to Sam in djinn world. But Im curious as to how she'll be back this time.

hopefully it will be an episode or two max. don't get me wrong, i love jess and her character but her mission was to send sam on the hunting path. she fulfilled her duty there.

but nonetheless - IM SO EXCITED!! supernatural is definitely on a roll and its so interesting. i can't even part from teh tv at 9

last time you would've seen her... shouldn't that be in the episode 220 what is and what should never be

I think it would have made more sense for her to come back last season, probably during the end, like how Mary and little Sammy did.

I really don't see how she's gonna come back, but then again, we don't know anything about next season besides the whole Lucifer thing. But knowing Kripke, he'll find a cool way to work her in. I just hope he does bring her back to life or something. She needs to be a spirit or something.

OMG yes! I love Adrianne Palicki! So excited!!

This is the best spoiler I've read so far!!! Yes, she's a thing of the past for Sam but maybe this is what he actually needs to get back on track... maybe just to see her. I wanted her to be in the panic room so bad in 4x21!

Everything happens for a reason on this show, and there's a lot about Jess that we still don't know... while so many fans have had theories on her we might actually have some answers this season!!!!

I don't care even if it is a flashback of Sam's time in college: I cannot wait to see her!!! =D

Why? I mean seriously why? I hope it's for only one episode. Because the point of her was that she died and that got Sam on the road in the first place. I think her storyline was wrapped up just fine and there is no real purpose for this. UGH!

Probably, it will be a demon using her physic image. But, if they bring her back alive, I'm going to be very upset.
